Huddersfield Grant of Arms, 1868
Huddersfield 150: The Exhibition was a celebration of the incorporation of the town in 1868. Incorporation was a crucial part of Huddersfield’s development into an industrial powerhouse and the largest town in the North. From health and sanitation to transport, utilities and democracy, it lit the touchpaper of civic pride and expansion.
The exhibition featured highlights from the collections of West Yorkshire Archives Service (Kirklees) and was been curated by local historians, supported by Heritage Quay and West Yorkshire Archive Service.
The free exhibition at Heritage Quay (University of Huddersfield) ran from Saturday 7th July through to Sunday 4th November 2018 and formed part of a series of events celebrating Huddersfield 150.
The exhibition was formally opened at noon on Saturday 7 July by the Mayor of Huddersfield and was followed by workshops and talks by local historians.
In 1968, Huddersfield Corporation held an exhibition titled “A Century of Progress” at the Town Hall.
